Today is Grandma and Grandpa's 55th wedding anniversary. Wowsers! That is a long time! That makes our seventeen years seem like a pittance! I have not talked to them, so I don't know if they are doing any thing special today or not. I will have to give her a call. I doubt they are going on a cruise or doing any thing exotic to celebrate. Maybe a cookout with some family or go out to dinner. We were with them on their 50th anniversary and several of us went out to dinner with them. What an example to us, though, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to see a marriage last that long. They have certainly seen their fair share of struggles over the years, but they always persevered, worked hard and did what needed to get done to keep on going. Good job, Grandma and Grandpa!
Thinking about the longevity of their marriage made these two verses come to mind. ...a quarrelsome wife is as annoying as constant dripping. Proverbs 19:13b nlt
It's better to live alone in the corner of an attic than with a quarrelsome wife in a lovely home. Proverbs 21:9 nlt
I cannot remember hearing Grandma nag Grandpa one time, or ever tell him what to do or what not to do. Not that anyone could tell Grandpa what to do or not to do! Ha!Ha! That is one thing I have learned from their marriage to try to make ours the best it can be. My great Grandma use to tell me, "If you want to be treated like a queen, you have to treat him like the king." I have a ways to go working on this statement, but I always remember it and keep trying!
Of course I know living for Christ and lots of prayers are the #1 thing to keep a strong and healthy marriage.
Congratulations to your grandparents! My folks will celebrate their 56th in a few weeks. We could all learn a lot from both couples I'm sure!
