Donut Day

My kids have been blessed with some tremendous grandparents. On Saturday mornings that my Dad (Grampy) does not have to work during winter, he brings us donuts! How much better could a Saturday morning start? The only thing Jess and Walker have to do to earn the donuts is make sure the coffee is on and fishing shows are on the television. Actually, Walker is our early riser, I think he usually takes care of this small matter. All I have to do is roll out of bed and go eat a pineapple cheese flip. What a life! This morning was a nice winter morning, but there have been some chilly Saturday mornings, and Grampy still shows up. I wonder if Jess and Walk think about the fact that Grampy does this to spend time with us, because I'm sure he could think of better things to do than get out of a nice warm bed at 5:00 or 6:00 am, drive eight miles to town, buy donuts and drive eight miles to our house. He usually visits with us for a few hours and then drives the sixteen miles back to his own house. It is greatly appreciated, Grampy!

I have got more than the donuts (and a few pounds) out of this routine, though. What a way for Grampy to spend some time with his grandchildren, and his daughter and son-in-law, too! I have learned a lot from Dad on raising children. Many of the ways I love and discipline my children I have learned from him. Now he is teaching me what kind of a grandparent I want to be when that day comes, also.
