I know several Veterans that need to be remembered and thanked today for their service to our country: my Grandpa, a few uncles, a nephew and some friends. I also have a cousin who made the ultimate sacrifice several years ago in Lebanon. Thank you to all of you.
Last night I got a phone call letting us know that a friend of ours who has been serving in Afghanistan is now back on American soil. We have prayed for his protection spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically since the day he left last year. What good news to hear he will be home in a few days. I cannot imagine the relief his wife, parents, siblings and other relatives must be feeling.
Do you do any thing for Veterans Day? Other than enjoy the day off work if you are employed some where that you get today off? My Uncle, who served during Vietnam, once made the comment to me about how odd it was that I had Veterans Day off because I worked in a bank at that time and he had to work. His point was well made with me. I have not worked at the bank for over sixteen years and I still remember him telling me that! Back to you and Veterans Day – do you take the time out to thank a Vet in some way? It is rather embarrassing to admit, but I don’t do much. I do make sure to find a way to thank at least one Vet every year though. You don’t have to do or say much, just making the effort to say, “Thank you” is good. If you want to take it a step further you could send a card, buy them a candy bar or bake something for them. I do practice what I preach – I made a pan of brownies for the King to take to work for the Veterans he works with! It’s not much, but it does show our appreciation.
Candy, thank so much for this great reminder!
