While I was blogging yesterday, I could not help but think of my Grandma Lorry. She was especially good at making a person feel welcome; she normally had a smile on her face, was always up for a yummy treat of some kind (pretty much any kind!) and loved a good laugh.
Several years ago she was spending some time down at Mom and Marv's. They knew I was coming down to visit with the Princess and Trucker, but I went down a day earlier than I was originally planning on.
When we pulled into the driveway we interrupted Gram's afternoon nap. She met me at the door with her hair sticking out every which way, from sleeping in the chair, and she asked me, "What the hell are you doing here?" I busted out laughing, she did not mean it at all like it sounded. I told her I thought a Grandma was supposed to meet you at the door with her hair in a bun and a plate of cookies in her hand. She informed me that was exactly what she had in mind if I had showed up the day I was supposed to get there!
I teased her about that "fine welcome" until the day she died. We love and miss you Gram.
I think it is a Gerber (or gerbera) daisy. Yes you can cut that flower off and bring it in. More will appear! Eventually.
ReplyDeleteCute Grandma story!
Thanks, Cheri. I will bring in my Gerber daisy today!
ReplyDeleteMom never was the typical Gramma sorts, but she sure did like to make cookies and bake stuff. Especially chocolate cakes in the one serving size. If you'd of showed up on time you probably would of gotten some delicious cookies, but if you would of came a day later than expected you probably would of heard "where the hell were you, and sorry the cookies are all gone". You are right about one thing tho, she is missed.
