Brrrrrrr...

There was frost on the pumpkin this morning. Well, maybe not on the pumpkin, but on the van window! When I checked the temp at 6:30 this morning it had warmed up to 35*, now we are at 45* and still climbing. It is supposed to get in the 60's today with the sun shining, beautiful weather. Should make for a great night to watch the King play some softball.

Last night I finished reading Paths of Glory by Jefffrey Archer. The book is based on a true story about a group of guys that went on a couple of expeditions to reach the summit of Mt. Everest in the 1920's. I don't have any desire to try mountain climbing, but I did enjoy reading about their adventures, drive, stamina and perseverance. I also learned a few new things about what that kind of altitude can do to your body. Not only did the author go into the physical feat of trying to accomplish this, but also into the mental toughness that these men had to have. The main character of the story, George Mallory, was married. You learned the emotional struggle that this was for Mallory deciding if he should attempt this while leaving his wife at home. The wife's side of the story is written about, too, her thoughts about him leaving. Mallory's body was found in 1999 on Mt. Everest and no one knows if he made it to the top or not. After reading the story and learning about him, I want to think that he did it! I did not give the story away by telling you that his body was found seventy years later, that is written in the decription of the book on the inside cover!
