Auto Zone. Two weeks ago the check engine light came on in my van. Not what I want to see. Over spring break, while down at Mom and Marv's, the same light came on. Marv took the van to one of his gear head buddy's place and the nice mechanic guy hooked up his tester to see why the light came on. Problem? The gas cap was not on tight! Easy solution! Cheap solution! The nice mechanic guy did not charge us a dime.
Two weeks ago the light came on again. I thought I knew the answer. Wrong, I tried the gas cap twice, the light stayed on. I went to one of our local car fix it places, they could not look at the van until the next day, but they told me it would be safe to drive until then. I tried another local car fix it place, they could not look at the van until today. Remember, this was two weeks ago!
Since the first car fix it place told me it would be safe to drive for a day, I took off for one of the Princess's away softball games, which happened to be in the town the King works in. One of his co-workers told us to take the van to Auto Zone. They will bring their tester out, check your vehicle to see what is wrong with it right then and there, while you wait for five minutes for FREE! We drove over to Auto Zone, quick, before the game started, and sure enough, they check it for you right then and there for free! Our problem is a small evaporation leak, nothing important the Auto Zone guy told us. We still need to get that fixed, but at least we know what the problem is and we know that we can drive until we can get the van in for an appointment.
Next time your check engine light comes on, save yourself some time and money. Go to the nearest Auto Zone and let them check it for you for free. Maybe you will still have to go to a mechanic to get your car fixed - or maybe it will be something real simple like tightening your gas cap. Or, try your gas cap before you even go to Auto Zone.
We've got a special day coming up tomorrow! I will tell you all about it then.
