While down at Mom and Marv's, Mom and I went to Red Wing, Minnesota, bumming around. While driving around town, I saw a sign that said Barn Bluff, so I followed the sign's arrow. Just a short distance out of town we saw the Bluff. You can stop and hike to the top of this baby! We did...kind of. We just started following a trail, thought about going to the top, but we didn't have on the best of shoes to be hiking around in - plus we had to pee. That made us turn around and go back to the beginning of the trail. When we got to the beginning, we read the signs that pointed out the different trails we could take, we were on the toughest one. Leave it to us to read the signs and maps when we get back to the beginning point. Even if we did not make it to the top, it was still an impressive sight.
We went snooping around in the old Red Wing Factory where they made all of the crocks that I like to look at. That was a neat place to visit, also. It is a three story, brick building that seemed like it was half a block long. Part of the building is a museum with several crocks, pictures of men making crocks and dishes from years ago. I saw my first 70 gallon crock while there! The rest of the building is full of antique vendors, sixty of them to be exact. Mom and I spotted several antiques that we remembered from some of her grandparents (my great grandparents) homes. Other things one or the other of us remembered from our childhood, but could not remember whose house it had been in. Just down the street is the new Red Wing Factory, where they still make dishes. You can stand in there and watch the potters making the dishes.
To end the day, we ate dinner in a Mexican restaurant. We had a shrimp quesadilla, which was good, but nothing compared to the fried ice cream we tried for dessert! Neither of us had ever tried it, so we gave it a whirl. Yum!Yum! I must of enjoyed it even more than I thought, because half way through the ice cream Mom pointed out that I had chocolate on my elbow. How did that happen? Oh well, too good to worry about it now, just keep eating. We finished dessert and were putting our jackets on to leave when I noticed that I had a little spot of guacamole on my shoulder! I think Mom was throwing food at me when I wasn't looking, but she denies it.
Speaking of Mom, we would appreciate prayers for her. She will be going in tomorrow morning for cataract surgery on one eye. In a little over a week she will be going in for surgery on the other eye.
