Try Again!

We will try this again today, Bloggers! We had a great time with the King's folks over the weekend. Friday night Carol and I sat at the kitchen table and looked at a few new quilt magazines and books she had acquired since I was there last time. Saturday was a flurry of activity; sewing, shopping, weaving and sausage making.

The Princess started on a trapping basket first thing in the morning. Good thing, too, as it took her most of the day. There is a lot of weaving in one of those things. I put a pop bottle next to the basket in the picture so you can get an idea of how big one of those are. She made it for her brother. I hope he realizes how much work and time goes into one of those and treasures it forever!

While the Princess had her reed and pattern out and was working away, the King decided he wanted to make a basket. He has made a few over the years, but not something he does all of the time. He did a really nice job on his. Much better than I can do. I have made a few, but do not enjoy making baskets. I don't weave tight enough, so if you use the basket for anything besides looks, they will fall apart after a while.

After Carol got the Princess started on her basket, Carol and I went to town to the quilt shop. I don't have to tell you how much fun that is! I picked up some material to make Miss Joy a new tote for her birthday. This was the first tote that I have ever made, I think I will be making more of them. It was fairly easy, fast and turned out half way decent. I was able to give it to Joy last night, so that makes it even more fun when you can give the finished project to someone.

On our way out of the quilt shop, I saw this little beauty sitting on the floor under a table. I love Red Wing dishes and crocks, but had never seen one of these before. It is a 2 1/2 quart covered casserole dish. I knew it was worth more than they were asking for it, so I had to write out another check. Good thing I don't go shopping too often! When I got home I looked it up on the internet, it is worth twice as much as I paid for it. That makes it even sweeter! I haven't decided if I am going to keep it for ourselves or give it to Grampy and Miss Joy for Christmas or their anniversary. The King suggested we sell it and buy a new musky reel. I don't like his idea!

After we got back to the house, I started on my sewing project and the King started on his basket. Carol had to be teacher to all of us. She did an excellent job. I would have gone crazy with all of us asking her questions at the same time. Not only was she having to help all three of us when we got stuck, she was also making supper at the same time. And, our classroom is in her kitchen! She still magaged to make a yummy supper though. We had chorizo sausage and potato dumplings which were fried with bacon and onions. How is that for a fat fest?! Oh yeah, we had peas, too. It was almost a perfect supper!

Blogger is not cooperating this morning with the pictures either. You might end up knowing what we did all weekend and looking at the pictures another day, or never. I am still trying to get at least one in for you to see. Is anyone else having trouble with pics the last couple of days? Or is it just me and my computer?

Somehow during all of this commotion, Dan and the King found time and space (in the kitchen) to make 40 pounds of sausage. Yum!Yum! I am looking forward to a homemade sausage pizza. I will need to keep looking forward to it for awhile longer though. After we left Dan and Carol's Sunday morning, the King called his Mom for something. She told us the sausage was still in her freezer. Oops! I guess we will have to go back again real soon for another fun, weaving, sewing and sausage making weekend!

I need to get off of here now and I could not get one picture to upload. Grrrrrr! I will still try to show you are master pieces another day.

We have another fun filled weekend coming up, too, starting Thursday! Mom and Marv are coming up for the weekend! Woohoo! That will mean more sewing, talking, laughing, bumming around the country side to see what we can find!

  1. Find us a house, Bug, and we can enjoy ourselves all the time! I'm bringing up lots of presents, some even for you! Keep your fingers crossed for nice driving weather. Although getting stuck in a motel might be a nice mini-vacation, I'd rather be sewing and gabbing with you guys. See you soon.

  3. Candy, sometimes I have to load my pictures on at a time to get things to post. And then again, sometimes blogger is just a bugger.

For example - I usually have to try two or three times to post comments on your blog. Don't know why!

  4. Thanks for persevering, Cheri! I like it when you comment. Is it only my post that you have to try two or three times? My Mom has trouble posting, sometimes, too. Maybe I need to change something to make it easier for you guys? Any ideas?
