I subbed in the elementary/middle school library today. One of the elementary classes was in the library for a couple of hours this afternoon. One of the young boys in the class had been told by his teacher and the librarian a few times to sit on his chair the right way; don't tip back in the chair, sit with your back against the back of the chair - not the other way around. When he was on one of the stools; they were telling him to sit on his butt, not his knees and not to lean the stool up on one leg. I was standing behind the counter in the IMC, talking to the librarian when I noticed that he was on the stool balancing it on one leg again. I talked loud enough for him to hear me clearly from across the room, but I was by no means as loud as I can be, when I told him "Put the stool down on all four legs and sit on it the right way, if you cannot handle that, then push the stool to the side and stand up the rest of the time you are in here." The young student put the stool on all four legs and I didn't think anything about it. The librarian said to me "Do you hear that? It is dead silence in here, I think you scared them!" I laughed and said that I have been told before that I can be loud. (Actually, I have been told that on and off for thirty-nine years now, not fifty years, thank you Chuck!!) The librarian said to me that I did not have a loud voice, just a very commanding one! I didn't know if I should take that as a compliment or not! Would I rather be loud or commanding? Hmmmm.... The King told me I have had practice at both. I think he meant because I have a deaf Grandpa and two teenagers, therefore I have to be loud sometimes and commanding at other times!
Before falling asleep last night I did some reading in Hebrews. I cannot think of a better thought to go to sleep with. For God has said, "I will never fail you. I will never abandon you." So we can say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear." Hebrews 13:5b,6a nlt

You keep thinking what you're thinking, Bug, and I won't remind you that even at a VERY young age you were able to sound loud and commanding! I can remember dogs (German Shepherds, no less) who rolled over and wet themselves when you spoke. It's no wonder young children respond so quickly. Good thing your dad and I were made of sterner stuff.
