Good News Stories

I saw a heart warming story on Headline News yesterday. An elderly doctor in a small town in Illinois has had his own practice for forty-five years. He knew of several people in his community that have lost their job or their insurance due to the economy. He talked it over with his wife and they decided to give medical services to his patients free of charge for the rest of this year! That is, the patients that have lost their jobs or insurance. The doctor said he and his wife did not need the money and they hated to see people ignoring medical problems due to a shortage of money. He did not want to be on the news or want any accolades, but thought that if people heard his story, maybe they would bless others with what they have been blessed with. This story came the day after Mom and I were talking about how depressing the news can be sometimes.

This story won't be in the news, but the youth group from our church and another local church are joining together tonight and tomorrow to do the 30 Hour Famine. They have accepted pledges from people and this money will be sent to World Vision and food and wells will be bought for people who do not have the means to provide for themselves. Not only will the youth students be depriving themselves of food for thirty hours, to get an idea of what it is like for some people who are forced to live this way quite often, but they will also be doing service projects locally. Some of the students will be going to a nursing home to visit with the residents and the rest of the students will be split into small groups and cleaning people's homes who for whatever reason are not able to clean their own home.

Today is my counsin's birthday. Happy birthday, J! Even though I did not send you a card, I am thinking of you today! Lots of memories from when we were little tykes are coming to mind. Some of them are fun and some of them probably were not so fun, but are funny now. I hope you are having a great day!
