What I Learned Today

I subbed in the IMC today, and they had the windows and bulletin boards decorated. Most of them were decorated for Valentine's Day, but one had not been changed yet. That one had January - National Month of...

Did you know that January is National Oatmeal Month?
Did you know that January is National Hobby Month?
Or, how about January being National Tea Month?
Don't forget, January is also National Soup Month.

Who comes up with all of this stuff? I could not wait to get home though and have a cup of tea and work on a hobby. I wish I would have known this way earlier in the month, that would have been a grand excuse to do nothing but quilt, read, bake and crochet the month away! Instead, I have to go make supper now, hmmmm... which shall we have, oatmeal or soup? I myself would be quite happy with a bowl of oatmeal, slab of butter on there with some maple syrup poured in. I don't think a few others that share this house with me would be so pleased with oatmeal for supper! I guess that makes it soup for supper. I'm thinking venison vegetable soup with dumplings. If I make enough soup and my family are not hogs tonight, I will have leftover soup for the King's lunch tomorrow. I wouldn't want him to not be with the January theme, you know. It has nothing to do with the fact that I get tired of making three or four sandwiches every day! And the fact that he probably gets tired of eating my sandwiches every day, too!

How about you? Will you be making oatmeal or soup for supper? Or something else? Leave me a comment and tell me the menu for tonight, or tomorrow night if you don't get to read this until tomorrow. Maybe you will have to forget tonight's supper and get right to your tea and hobby.

Oatmeal, tea, soup and hobby...I think January will be your new favorite month, Mom!

  1. I think I'm doing pretty well with the January themes. I have oatmeal for breakfast often this time of year. A cup of tea everyday. Some stitching too. And we had Hearty Broccoli Soup for supper last night! How 'bout that!

I think we will have to make sure that February is Eat Lots of Chocolate Month. I'll be all over that!

  2. You're right, Bug, I could get into the oatmeal, tea, soup & hobby thing. In fact I think I'm there already. Tea and oatmeal almost every morning for breakfast (I've got to teach Marv how to cook something else!)and lots of soup for lunch (another of Marv's talents is opening cans!). He needs to spend more time in the kitchen with your hubby! The only problem is my scale must hate that stuff. The beast was HORRIBLE to me this morning!! How do I get "Scale Pitching" on to January's list of things? It could be the sport of the month. What do you think? Maybe if my hobbies of the month made me get out of my chair my scale would be nicer to me. Then again, probably not. At least January is about over. I think I'll miss it though. I like oatmeal, tea, soup, etc, etc.
