Memories

Last night we watched a movie on tv. In the movie an elderly couple took off on a snowmobile with her driving. She was going quite fast, through trees and across an open area; with him holding on for dear life. It reminded me of a snowmobile ride with my step-grandma, Nellie twenty years ago. Oh no, I guess it was more like twenty-five years ago. Yikes! I was a young teenager at the time and she was in her mid sixties, and she let me drive. We lived in southern Minnesota and our house was surrounded by big, open fields. Fun fields to a young girl on a snowmobile! Evidently to an old girl on a snowmobile, too! We took off (with me driving) through the fields, over the drifts and through some drifts. I knew we had to go fairly fast, or we would bog down in some of the drifts and I did not want her to have to walk back to the house. We had a blast! I could hear her laughing during the ride, and I can still see the smile on her face when we got back to the house. My Mother, however, was not smiling! I think Mom thought I was going to fast with an elderly woman on the sled with me. It did not seem to bother Nellie any. She is the same woman who went on her first roller coaster ride at Mall of America with some of her other grandchildren when she was in her seventies! If she was that daring in her sixties and seventies, I wonder what she was like in her teens!! When I am that age and spending time with my grandchildren I hope I can be young at heart like she was and give them many fun memories.

I have another snowmobiling memory that involves my Mom and I. I won't go into that now, not enough time to try to explain it all. Maybe tomorrow. All I will say for now is that I was driving and she ended up with several small cuts on her face. One of us saw the whole thing kind of humorous and one of us did not. I let you try to figure out who has a sense of humor and who does not!

The same movie last night also found the same elderly couple flopping down in the snow and making snow angels! That got me wondering when the last time I made a snow angel was. I asked the King when he last made a snow angel, and he thinks it was when the kids were little, probably ten years ago. We had a snow storm here five or six years ago and many of the youth kids from church came out to our house. Amanda and I were out making snow angels that day, and that is the last time I remember making them. One of these days when I am out with the kids, I will have to remedy that! When is the last time you made a snow angel? Have you ever made a snow angel? Want to come to our house and have a snow angel making party? Then we can come in and get with the January theme with some tea, soup, oatmeal and work on a hobby! Or, maybe we should have our snow angel making party next month and follow Cheri's idea for a February theme! See yesterday's comments to see Cheri's idea of a February theme!!

  1. Snow angels! It has been a long time....and will be longer still now. Maybe Joshua and I can make one when he is a bit older. Hopefully I won't be too old to get down on the ground AND get back up again!

  2. You'll be fine, Cheri! Besides, you have a husband and three stapping young sons to help you back up!

  3. Hmm...snow angels...I haven't got out much the last few winters with babies in the house. But the big girls make plenty for me to see from the window!

  4. In a few more years you'll have to make up for lost time, Tab! Or should I say, make up for lost snow angels?!
