Another Lesson About Patience

Today the Princess had a dentist appointment. She has one small cavity, not her fault the dentist said, it is due to deep grooves in her teeth, which she got from her Dad or I, and we need to get them taken care of. The dentist suggested that we get sealents (or sealants) on ten of her teeth because those teeth also have deep grooves. "How much will that cost?" I ask. He doesn't know, I need to talk to his secretary, who is gone getting the mail. I need to take Trucker to the dentist next week for his check up and cleaning. I will find out the cost of the sealents (sealants) at that time.

The Princess and I then run to the grocery store and Pamida. She needs to get a few school supplies, a few supplies to the tune of $40.00! Most of that money was for some fancy schmancy calculator she needs for Algebra II.

I need to get her back to school because she is the sports editor on the yearbook staff and has some deadlines coming up. No problem, we will be there in a jiffy. Wrong! As we are pulling out of the parking lot, we hear some loud thumping noise. I pull into the next parking lot and she jumps out to see what is dragging. I should back up and tell you that I am driving the King's truck because my van is at the van doctor place. She jumps out of the truck and tells me the running board is dragging! Perfect! Now she can't get back to school on time for her stuff and I have to call the King and tell him I broke another vehicle. Both the King and the Princess tell me I am never allowed to drive any of the vehicles again. The King meets us and ties up the running board with a rope and we get the Princess to school. I think she was a little embarassed at pulling up to the school with the running board tied up to the truck with a bright yellow rope! The Trucker would have thought that was pretty cool. Must be the difference between a fifteen year old girl and a fourteen year old boy.

Now the King and I head for home. When we get home, the van doctor calls me to tell me what is wrong with the van; some sensor was not working and that caused the spark plugs to be full of gas. Or whatever happens to them when that particular sensor is not working. The part of the conversation that got my attention was when he said $442.48! *Cough, choke, spit, sputter*

This is when the patience came into the whole scene, or should have. I should have prayed right away, but no, I called Mom and Marv to complain about the whole thing. They were quite kind and listened to my woes about where this money was going to come from. It wasn't ten minutes after I hung up that the phone rang. It was the sub lady calling from school wanting to know if I could sub in the IMC (library) on Wednesday. I wasn't real patient, but God was still in the whole situation and had it all under control. Granted, what I make Wednesday will not pay for sealents (sealants) and the van bill, but it is a start. It was also a great reminder to me that God knows all of my needs and cares and wants to take care of them if I will just let him. You would think this would come to me right away because my favorite verse is "Cast all your cares on Him, for he cares for you". 1Peter 5:7 Maybe I am a slow learner. Or maybe this was another lesson in Patience 101. So the Lord must wait for you to come to Him so He can show you His love and compassion. For the Lord is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for his help. Isaiah 30:18 Waiting and I don't always get along, but I am working on it. Thankfully He didn't make me wait this time to remind me that He was bigger than the situation.

  1. Hey Bug, AGAIN I tell you patience was never your long suit. Come to think of it, it was never your short suit! I'm glad you're finally listening to a better teacher! Maybe you'll get the hang of it yet?? You'll need it for when Marv and I move up there. Unless, of course, you're still looking into abusive nursing homes?

  2. I am excited for the day that you and Marv move up here. I guess this is another area where I have to work on my patience. If you keep lipping off though, your abusive nursing home could be right in our living room! Funny stuff!
