Yesterday was the first regular season game for the Vikings. I am a Vikings fan and wanted to watch the game. Our satellite dish at home is not receiving the local channels (which is where the game I wanted to see was aired), so I went directly to Grampy and Miss Joy's from church. I knew they would not be home, but also knew I could still watch the game at their house.
What I did not know was the challenge it would be to get the dish and television turned on and get the channel that I wanted! I could get the tv on, but all it showed was a snowy screen. I knew I had the dish on because I could see the little green light on the box was lit up. Why can't I change the channel or get anything besides this snowy screen?
After five minutes of messing with a bunch of buttons and trying a gazillion different things, I started to think of my other options. They live about a mile away from a bar, they would have my game on. Do I really want to sit in a bar and watch a football game? Not really, but sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do. I started thinking about friends of ours that are football fans and would have the game on. Is it rude to call them, explain your predicament and invite yourself over? Even if it is, I have been known to be rude before!
Before I tried either of these things, I called the Princess on her cell. She was going out to lunch and shopping with a friend. She was able to talk me through the right buttons to push (between two remotes and the tv and the box for the dish) and all of a sudden - there was my game! Woohoo! What a gal! She saved the day for me.
All of this made me hungry. I checked out their cupboards to find something to eat and found a box of macaroni and cheese. I have not had boxed macaroni and cheese for years. I never eat anything boxed. For whatever reason yesterday, Kraft tasted pretty good. Not as good as homemade, but it beat going hungry!
Today the satellite dish guy is supposed to be here to fix our dish. Hopefully next week I won't have all this mental and emotional strain! Ha!Ha!
Welcome to middle age, my dear. Middle age is not a year, its when you have to start going to your kids, or anybody's kids, to find out how to do stuff. Simple stuff - like running a TV. I know this because I've been there for awhile. Computer questions? Go to the youngest kid you can understand for the latest info! And some things you just have to forget. Like the VCR. I stay away from that!!
ReplyDeleteLeave it to the younger ones to know all things technical. I am telling you, a five year old is better on the computer than I am.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got to watch your game.
Since, I'm not allowed to touch the remote control (smile), I would have done no better, Candy.
ReplyDeleteAnd...regarding the pasties. Was that Syl's?
Been too long since I had a pastie.
All three of you are right about technical things. I am not a techie by any means!
ReplyDeleteCheri - I don't get to run the remote here very often, either. Maybe three or four times a year, when I am home alone. Then I usually think of things I'd rather be doing than watching tv! And, you are way to on the ball - YES it was Syl's! That place must have made quite an impression on you. Or have you spend lots of time up there?
I mean spent - not spend! Although I could spend lots up there, too!
