Yesterday's sermon was about the Sabbath. Pastor talked about the purpose of the Sabbath and what we do with the Sabbath. Do you take a break from your normal routine or do you keep flying from one project to the next? Do you let the clock run your life?
How many clocks do you have in your home? We have many, probably too many. I can see two from right where I am sitting now; one on the bottom of the computer screen and one on my wrist. We also have two radio alarm clocks in our bedroom, two clocks in the kitchen (on the microwave and on the stove/oven), each of the kids have a radio alarm clock in their room, not to mention our cell phones and the clock in the vehicles.
We have to follow a schedule for some things in our lives; you need to get to work or school on time, you need to get to appointments and meetings on time. Do you schedule yourself some fun time? A Sabbath? Time for rest and relaxation?
I do usually get some "my time" in every day. I might be reading, crocheting, baking, quilting, walking the dogs or spending time with family and friends. I need and enjoy this time. God knew we would need this time, that is why he told us to rest and observe the Sabbath.
I do try to observe a Sabbath rest. Not in a legalistic way, but I usually don't do any yard work or shoppping or cleaning (other than the maintenance type washing the dishes and wiping down the counters).
