This afternoon we get to attend the wedding of one of the young ladies who was in youth group several years ago. I started helping in our youth group around ten years ago - and bowed out of youth group when our own children were old enough to be part of the youth group.
I got to know Amanda quite well during her high school years. We have had many laughs together and a few tears over the years. We went to Atlanta, Georgia, together with several other students for a youth national conference six or eight years ago. Nobody warned us about chiggers during that trip; Amanda and I both came home with them. Apparently you should not sit on the ground in certain parts of our country. I never saw a chigger, don't even know if you can see them, but I do know they itch bad. Really bad!
Two other students that I got to know real well already got married this summer; one in May and one earlier this month. It will be fun to be a small part of Amanda's special day today. I'm sure there will be many more laughs, smiles and a few tears shared today.
I saw the bride's Mom yesterday at the beauty salon and was able to talk to her for a few minutes. The bride was there getting her nails done, but I did not get to see her. Thursday the bride got a facial. Today she is getting her hair done. The Mom told me that the bride has been so relaxed that it does not seem like it is all happening. This did not surprise me at all. That was one of the many traits I always like about Amanda. She did not get all worked up about things, she rolled with the flow and did what needed to be done.
Today will bring many fun and special memories of several of the students I was able to get to know. Today will be full of prayers for Amanda, her husband and their marriage. I will also be praying for many of the other students; the ones who are already married, the ones who are still in college, the ones who are out in the working world and the ones I have lost touch with and don't really know what they have going on in their lives at this time.
What? Amanda is getting married!!! We celebrated her 16th birthday just a few weeks ago on our deck didn't we??
