Got Milk?

Saturday the Princess and I made a quick trip to town for a few groceries. We needed two gallons of milk; one for making six cakes, frosting for six cakes and I wanted to make cheesy cauliflower soup for supper. The second gallon of milk was to have for this week. As we are driving home, I notice the "sell by" date on one of the gallons is FEB 09, which is only two days away. I will have to make sure we use that gallon up first. When we get home, I notice both gallons have the same "sell by" date. I know you can use the milk for a couple of days after the stamped date, but I usually like to have a few more days to be able to use the milk. Maybe if we hadn't been in a hurry we would have checked the dates, but we had lots of chocolate cakes to get made, and then bowls to lick out! We did use the majority of the first gallon, now one gallon to go. Biscuits and gravy sounds good for supper tonight, plus it uses lots of milk!

Here are a couple of pics of the cakes that the Sunday school students decorated yesterday. They did a great job, considering I bought the wrong decorating gel for them! Actually, I did not buy gel at all, I bought icing in a tube. The gel would be much easier for them to use. The icing does not squeeze out of the tube real easily, and was hard to make letters or numbers out of it. I never buy that kind of stuff, and did not even think about the difference between icing and gel. Now I know better for next time. I think the kids still had fun and we didn't have much of a mess to clean up!

  1. Don't be surprised if your class attendance skyrockets, Candy. Some of the adults might show up too. Great idea!

And you can turn that milk into buttermilk by adding lemon juice or vinegar. Then you can have buttermilk biscuits or pancakes....

And your recipe in the last post left my mouth watering!
