Feeling Thankful

Have you ever had one of those moments when you realized how thankful you should be for something, and you have been taking it for granted? I had one of those times this morning. The King took a vacation day from work to go ice fishing with a friend today. Usually he is gone for work in the mornings before the kids get up. This morning both kids were up doing their thing before the King got up. While I was in the kitchen frying potatoes and eggs for breakfast, the King came in and asked where his kids were at. I told him the Princess was in her bedroom blow drying her hair and the Trucker was outside feeding the birds and wandering around the yard. This is how it is every morning. The Princess takes her shower and then returns to her bedroom to finish getting ready for school, comes out and eats breakfast just before the bus arrives. The Trucker gets cleaned up, dressed, comes downstairs for breakfast, goes outside to feed the birds, wander around the yard and comes back in to talk to me for a few minutes before the bus comes. He usually informs me of what the weather is doing outside (this morning it was freezing rain), what bird feeders he filled and what he is doing after school.

All of a sudden this morning it hit me how thankful I am to be a stay-at-home Mom. Because of being home most mornings when everyone is getting to ready to leave, I just know all of their routines. That is what I have always wanted, was to be a stay-at-home Mom. Now that the kids are getting older and quite close to getting their driver's licenses, I don't know what the Lord has in store for me next. Will I still be a stay-at-home Mom? Will I be able to get a job in the school and enjoy having the same days off as the kids do? Or will I have a different job where I will be going to work every day from 9 -5?

I will just have to wait and see what the future will bring. For now I am thankful for all of the years that I have been able to be home with our Princess and Trucker. I have always been thankful to be at home, but I guess this morning was a reminder to take the time to thank God for allowing me to be home today!

This picture is not from today. My Mom took this picture over Christmas '07, while looking out our living room window.

I am also thankful that Trucker feeds the birds almost every morning. Today the finches are out there eating like crazy. Usually this means that we have some kind of nasty weather coming and they are storing up! We are under a winter storm advisory for tomorrow, we may receive 5" - 8" of snow! Woohoo!

Let me know something that you are thinking of that you have to be thankful for today; maybe it is something that you tend to take for granted quite often.

  1. Definitely know what you're saying, Candy...simple things we take for granted are often the greatest blessings.

  2. Lora - how did you word that to be so short, sweet and to the point? It took me five paragraphs to say that, and I still was not able to say quite what I wanted to say! You must be one of those college educated ladies!!
