"At Least In The Thirties..."

...that is a quote from our local weatherman talking about this weekend! Temps in the thirties will be nice to see, we started today out at -20*, again. The little tykes from our church and AWANA program will also appreciate temps in the thirties this weekend, as it is our Annual Ice Fishing Jamboree. Ice fishing is much more enjoyable when it is closer to 30* rather than 0*.

The above picture was taken by my Mom a few years ago. I don't even know for sure where she took it at, I think northern Minnesota. Leave us a comment, Mom, so we know for a fact where this cross can be seen at. I just thought it was a nice picture to look at on a cold day. It will be a while before we see open water around here!

Since it is so chilly out today, I figured it would be a good day to bake some Old Fashioned Buttermilk Bread. The plan is to have the bread baked, cooled and in the freezer before Trucker gets home from school. A warm loaf of bread can disappear real quick around here with the Trucker and the King home! Okay, maybe I snitch a piece, too!

While I don't enjoy these bitterly cold temperatures, I don't complain about them to much. I do prefer these temps to the real hot and humid temps that we sometimes experience in the summer. Our summers certainly don't get as warm as many other places, but I don't like it in the 90's. When I was a kid I would even get pukey sick when it was hot out. Thankfully I don't do that any more. However, if you are ever in a crowded place, it is hot, and you want out quick, start throwing up and people will clear a path for you in no time!

On that note, I will end today's blog!

  1. Hey, Bug, glad you like my picture. I call this one "Look to The Light". It seemed an appropriate name to me. It was taken up on the North Shore a couple of years ago at the mouth of the Baptism River. It's the Cross of Father Batista. He was a minister YEARS ago who covered his whole area on foot. Nice and healthy, huh? That is til you realize his territory covered all of northern Minnesota, all of northern Wisconsin and all of the UP! Now that's a jaunt! And you think you do good when you walk a couple of miles, boo hoo.
I haven't been there yet, but I hear that there is a museum in the UP all about his life. I'd like to get there some day. He must have been an amazing man. He even learned all the different tribal languages. AND he did it all year around. He lived to a ripe old age. Someone was sure looking out for him!! As for the cold, I hear from a somewhat reliable source that it will get warmer--in a couple of months.
